    Default Outboard Real time Timestretcher\Pitchshifter

    Hello Fellas!

Couldn't find an ideal, accurate, real time and "natural" pitchshifter\timestretcher on the digital domain, so i'm thinking about purchasing an external efx unit only for this. I Remember when i had the pioneer EFX 500, i could alter the sound key while maintening pitch using the zip effect, i immediately thought about buying it again but i don't want to degrade the quality of the source signal too much going thru cables and the circuits on this older model, so i don't know if it's worth. Was considering the EFX-1000 as it has an SPDIF in\out.. but it's damn expensive! Is there any other realiable and quality or "quality" external processors built for real time manipulation of pitch\stretching and not so expensive? maybe with SPDIF also or XLR ins and outs for less noise. I intend to use this external unit with Ableton Live.. i have an M-Audio NRV10 Firewire mixer, so i can route through it. Any tips or directions are more than welcome! :D

Ok guys thanks for the tips! i'm checking them out now!

i was confusing timestretching and pitchshifting quite a lot, but what i'm looking for is definitely a pitchshifter! so i can in real time change the key of incoming audio and mantain the bpm like the ZIP effect of an pioneer efx-500!

rhythmtech! exactly what i'm looking for!

but i'm getting a LOT of nasty cracking on the sound, and wow! quite the cpu hog, i have an quadcore + 2gb 1066mhz and the CPU went from 45% to 70%!

is it because of the cpu? or something else? if only i could get rid of this cracking..
