Hi,

Taking away the Xmas blues on Saturday Jan 26th will be The Innovator, Derrick May, flying in from Detroit for a rare Dublin appearance at the Tivoli. The Transmat man is one of the best DJs in the world and this will be the ideal night out as your pay packet comes in after the Xmas splurge!

Last showing up in Electric City in June of 2005, Derrick's only Irish appearance since then saw him play a storming headline set at the Electric Picnic last year. If one name crops up again and again in discussions of techno, it is that of Derrick "Mayday" May. Alongside Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, and Kevin Saunderson, May is regarded as one of the kings of the Detroit sound. One of the world's best DJs, Derrick will be playing a special 3 hour set going through the past, the present and the future with house, disco, techno all mixed up in Derrick's unique style. Echoes of Ken Collier, Ron Hardy, Larry Levan and the Electrifyin' Mojo reverberate through sound systems from Chicago to Brussels to Johannesburg when he takes to the decks. Famously described as making music that sounds like "George Clinton and Kraftwerk stuck in an Elevator" The Innovator will be kicking things off for Electric Shock in 2008. Support comes from Irish Dance Music award nominee and EC resident Eddie Brennan.
