Jus got a tapepack off a mate of Human Traffic 2003. About 6 Mark EG sets, Cally & Juice and theres 1 M Zone tape in the pack (but not sure if its from human traffic)
Listened over the pack. Mark EG absolutely blinding. Quality tunes what we expect and great Mixing! Cally Juice also rockin it in parts with some very good scratchin'!
My point is: i stuck the M Zone tape on and to be honest ive not heard much from M Zone really. I mean i knew he wasnt the tighest of mixers and the best at beatmaching.
But ive listened over this tape, and i took into account that it was live, and the mixing is absolutely awful!
What im saying is if i would have paid good money for this event i would have been pissed off because M Zone's performance seemed lazy and the mixing wasnt acceptable.
I expect the odd beats slipping but some of the mixes are way out, not even close. He could at least make an effort on the fading but it just seems to me he slams the fader straight up fully, if the beats out, he doesnt seem to make an attempt to get them in hence pulls the fader straight down on the out-going track.
Some of the cuts, the out-going track is too high so when he slams it out there is a big cut in volume. Other tunes are mixed on the last 8 bars or something near.
Now you can immediately see the difference when you put Mark's sets on.
I thoroughly enjoyed his mixes, and can only respect the mixing. Great EQing and fading, beats in - all the lot.
It just makes me wonder how M Zone has got in the position he is!
