    Default midi latency

i have a terratec dmx 6 fire and the best latency i can get is 23ms

alot of the stuff i do doesnt sond right when quantisized at all it has to sit off the grid to sound right.

thing is its very hard to get the notes perfectly in time with the delay.

and i have to go back moving notes individually.

can yuo get near zero latency with a high end card?

    and any suggestions?

i might try mouse clicking to write stuff, does that work?

try using the differant driver options from within your DAW.

im using an m-audio fasttrack and get latency of 8ms using the full duplex asio driver with input turned off.

when you go into the advanced settings/panel on the full duplex driver it gives you the option to turn inputs and outputs off. depending on your DAW this will be in differant places.

use asio drivers, adjust buffer size for the best compromise between latency and cpu use

if he's using a terratec i would already assume he knows to use asio drivers but theres a few options.. asio mme, full duplex etc etc

ah thanks, i have never turned any imputs off.

in my drivers the one that gives me lowest latency is the

asio for dmx 6 fire driver - i can only change the buffer size in dx drivers or wave drivers

wat is an acceptable latency? also it has latency compesation switched on so does that write the notes to track how ever many ms forward than the latency puts it back?

latency between 5-10 ms is ok.

i managed to get a latency of 5 ms by changing somehtin in the asio panel , the buffer size.

but i have to reselect the driver each time i start the program. and if i use the asio driver winamp etc wont work after i close it

You could try using 'asio4all' driver. I'm no expert, but it did the job for me in ableton live. I get a reliable 10ms with a cheap 'creative 24' and a 1 gig 2.4ghz computer.

    I think it's still a free download from the asio4all website. . .
