i used to order from lots of different shops abroad but since i found juno, i've never looked back. they have a great '8 week' feature, which i just love - perfect for me as i love getting a completely new record box every 2 months. i've had tonnes of packages from them now. records come within 2 days max. PERFECT.

Tribe Records success was because of Simon ( I think that's his name) He went to nights like cabbage and Riff raff even tho he doesn't dig the music and researched the markets and always had a stock in of stuff that I would buy. He knew his stock like the back of hand and always put the right stuff in front of me. Unlike that other excuse for a record shop in leeds where the guy couldn't be arsed to say hello, didn't know your name, couldn't be arsed ordering in stuff you like to buy and wasn't set up to take switch cards. Lousy website too. He also insisted blasting out tunes while you were trying to listen to stuff on headphones which were usually broken. No surprises he packed up. Good riddance to it.

HE was full of bullshit excuses too about how the market was dying. He even came crying on here. I think that's a bunch of crap. Know your customers, know your market locally and adapt. He wanted to remain specialist long after the orbit crowd had buggered off and sneered at me when I asked him to stock infectious ditro stuff. If he wants to turn down my money then he's a chump.

There will always be a market for record boutiques in cities. the ones who go under probably deserve to.

The web market is different as its mail order and something where slowness and fck ups are just not tolerated. Having one online that gets you what you want when you want it is something to be celebrated and who cares if it does well. If it starts getting sloppy then thats just an opportunity for someone else in the market who can get shit right.

Banging tunes does pretty well just on vinyl alone because of a well deserved reputation and the fact he has that forum to have his market research on his doorstep and keeps his customers checking the site often.

Slackers be damned. The market will provide. Survival of the fittest ensures we get the best stuff for the best price.

I agree with your ethos that you should support your local record shop but if it aint any good, you aint gonna buy sht records just to keep him in business are you?
    Blimey.

Blah blah market forces whatever. Sure you're right, but - sometimes, it's a shame. None of that makes me remotely change my opinion. Keep your free market tosh and stick it up your arse ;)

And anyway. Who are you talking about in Leeds?

It's a shame your mates haven't got the nouce to make a business work but sometimes making a business work is different to promotong your style of music. If your lucky the two collide but when society changes as fast as it does it's rare for that to happen. Either you are in the business of selling music or you are an artist promoter/producer. Youy adapt or die. Its a shame that things sometimes move on when we'd like them to stay put but the point of life and staying vital is adapting to change and accewpting the inevitable.

As I said, I aint gonna support a local record shop that aint moving with me. If you gave enough of a fuk you'd have done more to save it.

Whats that Thompson quote... the Music industry is one where good men die like dogs. there is also a bad side.

not saying for the saving of argument. The model applies to two other record shops. One survived. The other did not. I put this down to the fact that however crap "The Record Shop" was it still stocked records worth buying.

I looove Juno, been ordering my records from them for over 5 years now and they have never once screwed up an order, and the customer service has been great. Can't say the same for the other half doze sites I have ordered from.
I always tried to shop locally in Ottawa and Montreal, but the shop owners weren't always very cooperative and I wouldn't limit my purchases to the 4 new titles they got that week.

Juno Records has been my favourite vinyl store alongside chemical-records. Never had any trouble with my orders! Fast shipping too Norway, 3-5 days max! Top record stores :)
Have you ever been at a party and taken some acid, then forgotten about it? Have you then stuffed loads of other drugs down your throat, washed it down with cheap cider, and then 4 hours later found yourself writhing around on the floor thinking that you are some kind of 'yet to be discovered' animal, navigating an unfamiliar terrain using a new sense to guide you?
