I dunno Mark, even on mnml.nl, where Richie is normally worshipped, he is taking a lot of flak for this; with people saying it is money grabbing, embarrassing or even just that it looks stupid and childish... I am a big Hawtin fan, but I have to admit I was a bit red faced when I saw it. It really does look pretty stupid...

i've got nothing against Hawtin but this is too much

his music doesn't really do anything for me these days, although the last DE9 CD was dope

    Why not?

Silly, but I doubt it was done in a spirit of seriousness or uber pretention.

so sick of minimal being a scene rather than a sound. what happened to the music doing the talking?

meh, richie is a ledge, you cant deny it. if sunil can argue not for ripping on sven im pretty sure there room for richie's defence. Fair enough, its a bit too this-is-so-deep-that-being-part-of-it-allows-you-tobe-part-of-something-special-that-we-are-also-part-of, but jeff mills does it do, arguablty much better though. much better. but its a gimmick and no doubt those parties will be a good bit of craic. the picture where they are all around the cube like power rangers is funny but onec again its a gimmick, its marketing. he's in business. i don't like him as a dj and am not into the minus thing but as a member of the techno scene he's done more decent parties than anyone on here probably ever will.
so get over yourselves and do something to change the scene if you feel strongly about "what nu-minimal has done to techno"

    shite thread.

    can't hate the player...

at least he is trying to be creative with how to market himself and Minus...

What I find interesting is that whatever Sven does style wise....i.e beard....Ritchie has to also follow suit.

    Atleast he's wearing black again...:)

I just saw that earlier today and chuckled. I think it's a bit "Epcot Center", but I also think it's cool that he's expanding the experience.

I haven't really enjoyed any Richie stuff since Orange, but he does a good job of marketing. Electronic music as a whole is highly steeped in sci-fi lore, and this "cube" thing is just another example of that. He just takes it to a higher level than most. Instead of just doing a single track or even a concept album, he's basing an entire tour around a science fiction plot. It's kind of cool. It seems like a glorified raffle to me from reading it, but maybe there's more to the "cube" in the show. If I were in Detroit, I'd get the card, go to the show, and do whatever it is that you're supposed to do with it.

to be honest, i cant actually work out what this Cube thing does, someone please enlighten me.

Not sure what this whole promotion is about though really, and i dont particulary want to know. I love certain aspects of what Hawtin does, and some aspects i couldnt care for at all. Just the same that alot of people feel about a whole range of artists, remember, not everyones perfect. Although i seriously am very, very close.

couldnt give a hoot about this personally because like i say i dont understand what it even is, but i do sigh a little when people slag off a guy they dont actually personally know (who infact is a genuinely nice guy in my experience) whilst simultaneously forgetting that when u think back, he has played one of the biggest hands in getting people into techno over many, many years.

Anyone here not lost it completely to Decks and Efx then?
