    Default Vestax..

ive given up on buying any more vinyl as i can't afford to buy a new set of decks and a mixer. I used to dj in traktor, and i want to buy a controller:

    i was thinking:

Vestax vci 100, ive watched a few youtube vids and it looks great, but i have to buy an external soundcard to use it. This will be more expensive to begin with, but will also help me with my production, which helps in the long run. retails at about £350

    OR...

Vestax vcm 100, quite similar functiion and price but without the jog wheels and it comes with audio in/outputs. has dials instead of sliders for the volume. and does without the need for an external soundcard

anyone used either of these? any advice welcome

    cheers

    350 quid for that?

    It had better be good.

    How about this combo?

    and the VESTAX VMC004FX

its 50 quid more, but with a lot better flexibility.

I think the vestax looks overpriced and flimsy. Wouldn't be all that useful for production either, not what its designed for and none of the pots or faders are motorised.

You only need a pretty basic midi controller for what you want to do. Something like this is custom designed pretty much for djing in traktor:

    http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_u...nPro-main.html

And its only about 60 quid. I bought one a while back (because you can't buy anything else in argentina) and it does the job fine.

Also, I'd think about whether its worth djing in traktor. I love traktor for djing with final scratch, but wouldn't consider using it without turntables. Might as well use ableton, get the beat matching done for you and spend more time with EQ, layering and FX and what not.

IF you're going to lose decks and vinyl, might as well take advantage of the freedom that gives you. Replicating the limitations of a vinyl based mixing setup digitally doesn't make much sense to me. I love djing with vinyl so love final scratch, especially since I can switch between vinyl and digital files, but if you're going pure digital djing ableton is the way forward.

i meant that having an external sound card will help me with my production, I.E, being able to get a decent sound out of some monitors. I'm just using ok jbl hi-fi speakers atm, which is some what limiting

I already use ableton but also like traktor, so it would be used for both.

I looked at the m audio controller, but want something with more features.

vci 100: gives you an idea
