So. Behind their eyes the hope in them was sickening, and in many, dead. They lived from event to event with a subtle terror of the gap between, filling up their lives with distractions to avoid the emptiness where curiosity should have been, and breathing a gasp of relief when the children passed the point of asking questions about what life was for.

Innovators as in people doing something new and original...

Hawtin's past and current contribution is pretty formidable, irrespective of whether or not you like what he's done.

Jerome Hill for me defined a new genre and approach in techno simply through his djing. Combining diverse styles together to make a new sound. Props.

Dave the Drummer made hard techno funky and fun in a way I haven't seen anyone else do.

Booker Shade crossed genre divides and brought new people into the scene, plus helped define a slightly different sound. Only have to look at the hordes of "bookashade" sounding artists to follow to recognise the contributino made there.

Raiden & Offkey crew are doing something genuinely different. New crowds, new sound, new directions. If gabber can be called techno I don't see whats stopping the offkey sound from eventually finding its way into the fold, or being accepted as a sound that straddles genres.

Jeff Mills, despite getting it horribly wrong and falling flat occassionally - involved AV, drama and tension in performance I haven't seen anyone else do. Price of riding on the seat of your pants is falling flat on your face occassionally.

Lots of other people, those guys sprung to mind though.

Most innovators are just doing something new and original with old ideas. Or doing an old idea in a different way and communicating somethign different in the process.

if innovators are those who are doing something new and original, could we please talk about something new happening now, not 5-10-15 years ago? with all due respect to already mentioned artists

That does seem like a strange statement to make - doesn't matter how long you've been into techno, its just good that you are. Different people discover dfferent aspects of techno that bring them into the music and that can lead onto new sounds and artists. Theres damn all wrong with any of those names he mentioned, especially Jason Leach.

tbh i have a heard alot of older shit that i can't put my finger on and say what its is which actually got me into techno but it doesn't pump my nads like some of the sounds we are getting these days.

i've still heard of alot of atists that have been mentioned on this thread so get thinking and post em up please

I can appreciate those grooves. I would probably play some of that dj sneak/cajmere shit under my guise "sexual chocolate"

paul johnson's "overload 2000", "summer heat" and "bump talking" are sweet choons,, aye he has some nice key changes to his work.
