Well it`s all dependant on location really.
In london you can throw a stone and it will hit a studio, and most people don`t even think of approaching a studio for coaching, everyone reads sound on sound or whatever, sees glossy adds for SAE or insert name here institute, and does a course.
I was the last apprentice at Jam, not because they weren`t taking on anyone, but because no one thought to ask.
It`s not easy to get into an apprenticeship, no, but then it`s not easy to get ahead in any area of music, full stop.
It`s who you know, how you build your contacts, how you present yourself etc.
Talent comes down the list somewhere.
With apprenticeships and getting your foot in the door, having the gift of the gab, and a good rapport with whoever you are aiming at is essential.
