Default Firefly Banger // Nottingham // Nov

Back to our spiritual home, The Marcus Garvey Ballroom, for the last time in 2008 we’d like you all

    to come and play!

We Are Proud to Present to you .....

    >> Andrew Weatherall (Two Lone Swordsmen)

Weatherall's history goes back far to the beginning of the British acid house scene having swung

gigs for himself at Danny Rampling's legendary Shoom night off the back of the sort of sounds

showcased on Andrew's compilation for Nuphonic entitled 9 O'Clock Drop. Subsequent to this his

connections with the original Boys Own record label (and fanzine) led to artist releases, remixes

and a string of legendary London clubs such as Blood Sugar, Circulation, and of course Sabresonic

(where the fledgling David Holmes cut his teeth). It was through Primal Scream though that Andrew

first made his name. As the producer of Screamadelica he took The Primals, twisted them (best not to

ask how) and in turn created the hybrid of narcotically challenged rock and acid house that is

Screamadelica, now seen as a generation-defining release.

    >> Elite Force (U&A records / LOT 49)

On the decks, Elite Force has been a prime mover since 1990 when he cut his teeth playing huge

student nights and self-promoted acid house nights in the South West of England, before moving up to

London and ultimately gravitating towards his tech-funk style, with which he now has a full diary of

global bookings and has become known as one of the top technicians on a circuit that has included

massive shows in Hungary, Australia, Italy, USA, Czech Republic, India, Turkey, Spain, Japan and

China, as well as numerous festival slots including Glastonbury, Coachella and the Glade. His bi-

weekly strongarm sessions webcasts have become something of an intraweb institution since their

inception back in 2001, and the most recent archives should be your first stop if you've not come

across the Force in action before

**** Only four days to go until the last Garvey Firefly of the Year. This ones sure to impress ****

Obviously for you avid bug lovers, you need no introductions but If you've not heard of the night yet, well your in luck...

Check out these mixes from our resident DJs, playing at the night.
Click on the profile pics for a direct link to their myspazzes...

    Dave Russell -

Here's a new kid on the block and a new addition for the Firefly family.
Fresh from rocking out at our thursday night party, Bed Bug, he's ready to set your night up to be a good one!
Look out for dirty Minimal and thoughtful Tech House, you won't be able to not moved your feet.

    Beat Repeaters -

One of our, now, long standing residents.
These boys have been playing out for Firefly for well over a year now and they won't dissapoint.
With their own style of Tech House and Electro, you can be sure that they'll set the stage for the main acts.

    Thrash Jelly -

Founding resident of the night you see before you.
For those who know the night these guys need no introductions, when if comes the end of the night, it just won't stops.
Sporting a heavy artilary of everything you could imagine, it'll be toe tapping, foot stomping and body shaking.

Everything is available from the firefly website and on the **NEW** itunes podcast, Firefly Radio.

Not only are we providing you dance feinds with a kick ass night, we're also throwing in, just for good measures, a third addition to the firefly lable.

Form Firefly's own Celtec Twinz, with the title DiDaDoe (they wont tell us what it means!)

Mix 1 is a squelchy, big bass electronic mosh pit with quirky percussion and beats designed to mess with head.

Mix 2 (as played by LAURENT GARNIER amongst others!) is a slab of melodic, bass driven techno, coupled with a haunting piano line and a little bit of the DiDaDoe squelch-ness thrown in for good measure.

Firefly residents Thrash Jelly are on remix duties, providing a stripped down, groovy dance floor number, putting the finishing touches to an extremely interesting EP.
