    Default x0xb0x TB 303 Clone.

I was looking through ebay for TB-303's. wanking material only really, I don't quite have the money for a real one yet. I came across the x0xb0x, so I did some looking around and I came across it in Kit form. I reckon I might just go for it, FTW.

Here is a link to the page:

and here are some sample comparisons:

    What say ye?

(P.S the home made PA is still in the works too... updates soon)

didn't think they were releasing any more packs as the parts were getting to hard to track down? A mate of mine has one. sounds ok, not quite spot on though as side by side my 303 sounds much better. Although could be the way his was put together i guess.

I was on the ordering site and it said that they have 80 in stock, plus all the extras you could order. I will email him first I think.

Would recommend getting it built by them unless you really (like REALLY) know what you're doing, eh.

They're cool and all but tbh do you REALLY need a physical 303 considering how many emulations are available as VST etc ? Have you tried the Phoscyon ?

Check that out if you haven't already.

Fair enough it's nice having the BOX itself etc etc but you can always map anything to a seperate controller init ;-)

and SERIOUSLY, the guy who builds all my synths refused to attempt to build these and he's a ****ing genius. If you 'half know' what you're doing I wouldn't advise going for the kit version. Up to you, but IMO you'd be better off paying them to build it if you must have one. It's VERY complicated and the slightest **** up and you DO NOT have a 303 in your hands.

hahaha yeah I know man, I looked further at the schematics and there is some really fiddly soldering to be done. Still though, nothing ventured...

the x0xb0x is about 95% a 303 in sound , though the knobs are flimsy horrible things that feel loose and have that "oh shit is it going to breakf" feel to them.

It has a slightly more fuller sound to it compared to a real 303 and the resonance "twang" isnt quite the same.

There is a bloke in australia on ebay right now selling the full kit for about £60 more than you can get it for from the x0xb0x site - but you don't have to hang around for a year on the waiting list.

The acidlab bassline can get close but sounds too clean, almost VA like a patch on a nord modular or something. . Compared to a real 303 and x0xb0x it is very bright and the accent/resonance doesn't seem to twang at all.

The revolution can sound like a 303 at certain settings if you keep the knobs static but as soon as you start to tweak it, it sounds a bit "different"

Of course , I'm being really anal here , I love the sound of a 303 and I'm a purist. I miss mine dearly but would rather chop off my fingers than pay some cunt £1500 for some battered 25+ year old plastic toy monophonic synth/sequencer.

bottom line... get a pre built x0xb0x as their prices are dropping to about 400-500 squid now instead of 700-800 that they once were. Then pay someone to change them damn knobs to metal shafted decent ones.
