Righto, I`d like to pipe up my 5 pennies worth on what I think about all this.
The prod files forum has a bigplace in my heart, as I was part of the first wave who came through and cut my production teeth in there, back when it was a place exchanging production tips, critique, ideas, the general good being everyone was there to improve and help each other. And it worked, some great producers came out of that.
Since then, things got a bit cliquey, and people didn`t seem to want critique and ideas exchanging, rather there was more patting on the back, and people needing their egos inflated and blah blah.
That seems to have finally gone away, and we are seeing healthy (although infrequent) activity.
The production files section has always been collective and independant of the BOA brand anyway.
It has always been people communicating with their music, in a place that just happens to be the BOA forum.
I think it is better for everyone if this label is kept independant, and it`s own entity, merely referencing the forum, or the collective in the title I think, should be enough.
The label should remain a collective effort, with the choice of music being done collectively, with no one person being the head. This shouldn`t be hard for you all to work out. As long as you keep the standards at a good level, it will keep listeners interested, keep the label as being taken seriously, and anyone wanting to meet the standard will be encouraged to leap that little bit higher to meet the bar.
Organising artwork and so on looks like it is being dealt with, so all you really need to do is sort out a website or myspace and get it on.
With more heads banging out the promotion you guys should all be able to sort out something really quite strong, and also very unique.
I will still offer my mastering services for free. That would be my contribution to pay back the collective for what it has done for me.
I personally think you could still make it commercial, but it isn`t necessary.
Digitally you could get it set up, give all the admin passwords and so on for the aggregator to 2 or 3 people so that workload is spread, and then the only thing needs sorting where you send the money.
A joint ebay account or something?
That money will only get plowed back into the label (for purchasing magazine add space if the dosh gets to that level, I would suggest).
Anyway, I can help out with sorting an aggregator if you guys want to go down that route, but I wouldn`t want to be involved in monies or admin.
Get it done, all of you pull together and sort it.
this could be a really strong label, whatever it ends up being called, and I personally would feel very happy to see it happening as I love to see new music, fresh ideas, and especially collective effort in the scene.
Even though my involvement would be very minimal.
Get it done folks!!!
