it kind a goes something like this. Acid with the 303s has certain style to it that once you remove the 303s its still a slightly different in sound to alot of other techno and generally still has alot of heavy analogue bass lines - so when the acid sound changed from quite trancy sound 9aka Choci) to the harder techno sound (aka Stay Up Forever) ~1998 labels like Cluster were making "acid techno without the 303's". So now you see Powertools WahWah both classed as acid techno although powertools is hard techno and wahwah is old skool - so I guess its a strong fault of the artists and labels.
