    Default Shoegazer

who else is/was into it? always been one of my favorite sounds, from the major acts like my bloody valentine, ride, kitchens of distinction, etc. to the more obscure stuff like slowdive, lorelei, drop nineteens, etc. also revival bands like the pains of being pure at heart, film school, the jealous type, etc.

Just got to see The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart at a coffee shop a week or so ago. I stopped in for coffee not thinking a music festival was going on and they were setting up on stage. They were very good live. I was happy to see a shoegaze band that didn't hide their lack of songwriting ability behind a wall of white noise, reverb and delay. I really like Ride, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and so on, but am less than thrilled with some of the revival bands. IMO, some of them tend to rely on production techniques to define their sound versus songwriting and the ability to sound unique through the material. Panda Bear for instance. Generic songwriting hidden behind loads of delay and reverb trying for a retro/shoegaze sound. Lame.

:D That Swervedriver video was shot here in Austin! I remember going on a youtube jaunt for Swervedriver stuff and coming across that. All good videos. I had a mini-crush on the lead singer of Lush in the early '90s too.

i just saw my bloody valentine yesterday at coachella. it was absolutely the LOUDEST thing i've ever heard. like heart attack/sh*t-your-pants loud.

but it was awesome. awesome, awesome, awesome.

busted out my secret shine cd as well, which is a very good, more obscure shoegazer group along mbv lines

Love their new album. A bit mellower but hey they are 15-20 years older and never were that upbeat in the first place. They are playing right now here in Austin. :(

Here's a recording of the show mentioned in the post above. Apparently the sixth track (Come In Alone) is corrupted. Tracklist is on the link.
