Depends on how you pack them, if you just dump them in a cardboard box, then yeah maybe so, but if you use a bit of care, then no, not at all. I've moved across an ocean once, and my parents a few times, when your moving everything you have, ships are the only option. All of my stuff was fine, same with the folks. The stuff that didnt matter to much was just wrapped up and put in cardboard boxes, and it was all fine. The stuff that did matter (like records) was wrapped really well, and insulated/padded, inside wooden boxes. No problems at all.
