    Default Keeping track names secret?

I know certain DJs refuse to reveal tracklistings and tune names when asked but what do you all feel about this?

I can name a good 5 djs who do this and it really really badly irritates me and makes the dj seem 100% more arrogant in my opinion.

That's why although I get quite a few tunes upfront I'm more than happy to post the names of them for others to check out and post my reviews/tracklistings as I believe it alerts those to forthcoming music.

I understand the DJ may be "keeping ahead of his/her" game by not revealing tune names but I reckon that if a DJ is worried about his/her own career to the extent that they need to keep tunes secret it makes me question why they are DJing in the first place.

I'll tell you what caused this, I heard a DJ play a track which I've been searching for a while now and the DJ resorted to say "oh I refuse to give out tracklistings sorry...as i want to keep ahead of my game with regards to my DJing" when this mix is a good 6 months old.

M-Zone said about an approach of sticking stickers all ove rhis records too - although he's a good DJ and generally sound when i've spoken to him i think that's a well arrogant approach to take.

    Just my two pennies worth.

I think it is good to keep a track secret, it adds a bit of fun to it all, having to find that tune...If your devoted then you'll find the tune by yourself rather than have it handed on a plate to you...

Arrogant was defo the wrong word to use.....

Its not something I do at all.

I mean I know how good it is when you find a track that know one else has got.

But I think its more down to the insecurity of the DJ when they don't tell you the names of trax. I mean they obviously feel threatened by the thought of other people nicking there tunes.

I think if our confident in your overall ability to find tunes and DJ well then you shouldn't feel threatened!

I take it as a compliment and I quiet like giving names of tunes out cause I know by the time they bought them I'll have found a load more anyway.

I never heard of a DJ's career being destroyed or slowed down by giving his tune names away but then again as I said before I believe its all down to how confident you are in your own DJ ability.

    Just my thoughts.

I'd never do this... just think that its pointless. At the end of a day if you manage to get hold of a track early for any reason nobody else will until its released... and they are no doubt going to hear it and buy it then anyway.

i had to search for a tune that no one new anything about, it took me ages and when i got all the details i then had to find a copy which took me ages as well. that saying when i did find it, the shop had 2 copies and when i got my hands on them it was very sweet  but i wouldn't keep my track list secret because it took me about 6 months to get hold of. (by the way the track was,, the shadow, "the other side".)

mr corbin I do not like the way you have a go at my literary skills I do see it as arrogant :dontevengothere:

i see it as arrogant because arrogance is "Having or displaying a sense of overbearing self-worth or self-importance" so the DJs themselves think they are too important and also selfish to give out the name of a tune.

if a big name a list DJ asked these same DJs for a tune or someone higher up in the "industry" than themselves then the DJs who do not give out tune names would certainly tell the well known djs the name of the tune. I have no doubts that would be the case.

you may argue that this is too strong a word which i am sure you will indeed so maybe egotistical, insecure and defensive are 3 slightly more apt ones

but i still think it is wrong and the more djs who do this the more irritating it is for clubbers.

Certain cases have happened where no one knows the name of a tune im after and im still searching for ages on when this is time i coudl have been spent doing other things.

I did this the other week to someone, but only because I was under the impression that they were involved with Tidy Trax an we all know where that road leads to.

Well at the end of the day Louk, your not a DJ and you don't understand what it is like to find a sly tune and not want anyone to find out what it is so that you can get a good play of it before every other DJ is out there caining it, cos after all, in the words of Mark EG "you have to be different and unique, something, something, something...."

You'll never understand the buzz of finding a sly as fock tune and no-one knowing what the name is and you can cain it....trust...

right guys.. i agree. it's a buzz having tunes no one else has but if ANYONE comes up to me and asks me for the name of a track, i'll give it to them. full stop. i can't see the point of wanting to keep it all to yourself.

if you play it out and refuse to name the tune you are disrespecting the person who made it, and not doubt whoever gave you it early. I'm sure they would no doubt be angry if the tune that a person has made, if it goes down brilliant with the crowd, is not having its true identity shown.

The producer didn't just make the tune and provide to you early so you can make yourself "different somehow". If your going to try and make yourself look a better DJ than someone cause you've got your hands on a tune early then you should at least have the decency to respect that you've had your fun playing it out before others and that now its time for producer to get some credit and be named.

Sorry, I strongly disagree with the DJ hiding tunes thing. We have a right to know what it is called IF you are going to play it under your name AND you didn't produce it AND MORE SO if you have got the tune early, in good faith.

Remember, that's just my opinon... I doens't mean I have any disrespect or dislike for anyone who disagree's with me on this. I just do think what I said in my last post on this, and if I am ever asked what a tune is called, I shall tell them.

Just my way of things I guess.

FAIR PLAY I Agree with that 100000000000000% and then some more

truest words yet - corbz if you dont give out tune names it is disrespecting the producer

if i made a tune which i have done and given it to a dj who said they'd play it i would love for the dj to give out the name of it and tell others.

you dont see it from my point of view at all

yep, your right I dont, because I see it from a point of view from a dj who is one of many trying to break out there, if every other person is playing the same tunes as me im just a nobody...

Get a sly tune....tell everyone about it? I think not...

After all the chances are WWW.GERMANTRANCE.COM will make it available for everyone to see and buy....

SLY TUNES  , **** all this disrespecting producers wank.... :dontevengothere:
