    Default mixer advice

right...been using a mates peavey pv8 for recording guitar and vocals into my comp via my single stereo input pci soundcard.

he needs it back now so am in the market for a mixer that i can route stuff through into the comp. not really that bothered about using the mixer at the 'rear end' of the process, its just as a way into the box.

i've had a look around on the net at reviews and the like, but wondered if any of you guys had any decent recommendations.

    been considering these

    Soundcraft EPM6 - http://www.thomann.de/gb/soundcraft_epm_6.htm

    YAMAHA MG - http://www.thomann.de/gb/yamaha_mg_124_c.htm

    TAPCO -http://www.thomann.de/gb/tapco_by_ma..._fx_bundle.htm

would it be worth getting a USB mixer?

god man, so many questions. i suppose the main thing is that the mic pres are decent really, using a sm58 for vocals [not ideal but sounds okay]

any recommendations would be real good.

very transparent and bland but at that price thats all you want cause anything "coloured" in that price range isnt going to be coloured in the nice way.

sorry for the edit on your post there. i hit edit instead of qoute

as long as there transparent I'm happy. gonna see if the local hardware store any of these in.

on a side note a friends got a line 6 toneport ux2 interface, basically plugs guitar / vocals through your pc into some emulation software, he says the mic pre-amp models are amazing, anyone have any experience with one of these?

    Soundcraft IMO
Good build if you take em apart, and nice sound.

went to the local audio shop today to have a look at some mixers, they only had the yamaha in and not too keen on the build quality at all, really cheap plastic and loose sliders.

was speaking to one of the guys there who thinks i should by pass the mixer altogether and get a usb external soundcard with some ins and outs along the lines of an maudio fastrack pro.

he says this would be preferable to running a mixer into my audiophile (that was bought when they first came out). is this right?

It's an option, and probably unless you spend quite a bit on a mixer, you can get better results using software eq's to replicate whatever you might do with a mixer. But then having a mixer could always come in handy, this http://www.speakerplans.com/forum/ma...opic27195.html is a good price, ish, for a decent mixer.

Not sure if you are using Cubase, but the Yamaha N12 is pretty good for its price.
