Derrick Carter returns to headline matter’s main room with support from his Classic label co-founder Luke Solomon, Barcelona-based Scotsman Funk D’Void and matter resident Paul Woolford.
Having released his debut single in 1987, Carter rose to prominence on the early-90s Chicago house scene as part of the generation that produced DJ Sneak, Cajmere, Mark Farina and Felix Da Housecat. With releases under various pseudonyms, Carter and the cadre of Chicago producers he frequently recorded with helped define a strain of jacking house that’s re-emerged in the past couple of years with a new generation taking influence from the old masters. Among the producers indebted to the work of Carter and co. are Claude Vonstroke and Luke Solomon – it is with the latter that Carter set up UK label Classic Recordings in 1994. After 100 releases, Classic Recordings was closed down, with Solomon concentrating on his album The Difference Engine (released on Rekids in 2007) and his various adventures as part of the production duo Freaks with Justin Harris, and their label Music For Freaks. Having resurrected the label late last year, Solomon and Carter return to a London venue once more to reprise the vibe of their much-loved Classic parties at The End.

They’ll be joined by Soma’s Funk D’Void aka Lars Sandberg. Another producer influenced by the work of those Chicago pioneers, Sandberg’s productions are beloved by many of the world’s biggest DJs. Completing the line-up will be matter’s resident Paul Woolford. Along with his weekly residency at Space Ibiza, Paul’s been keeping himself extremely busy - the hard-working Leeds producer has been collaborating with the Mercury-nominated talent Maps; remixing Chelonis R Jones and D.Ramirez; and even designing his own range of watches as an ambassador for Casio.
