I've been getting into Reaper recently. Most of what I do comes from my hardware, so I record into that either as whole tracks, or sometimes shorter loops (sometimes use Acid to pull these into time if something's not quite right). I much prefer spending money on boxes rather than software.

Am thinking I may have to bite the Ableton bullet some point to strip down for when I can't take all the kit out, 'cos that does hold me back live in terms of transport, even though it looks much better with lots of colourful cables and flashing lights.

I did try a version of Sonar... it played havoc with my machine and left bits of DX plugins scattered all over everywhere which I still cannot stop from cropping up in menus on other programs, even though there I am pretty sure I have blitzed them all...

Has to be ableton live for me.

Recently upgraded from version 5 which i owned on day of release, to version 8. On the top all appeared to me much the same, but after experimenting and watching tutorial vids I am totally blown away with how powerful and flexiable it has become.

The intrument and effects racks with there macro controls, and there abilty to be nested, with multipul chains in each rack has really opened my eyes to expermenting.

The new groove tool is getting a good work out aswell.
