    Default The Beat and Fishbone

I just saw Dave Wakeling's version of The Beat (The English Beat over here) and Fishbone play. I hear Ranking Rodger has a version of the same band over there. Oh well.

The opening band was a band from Louisiana called Outlaw Nation. They sounded like a boring version of Sublime. Their drummer was pretty good but kept doing all these cheesy stick twirls. I was bored quickly.

FISHBONE. Still have it and still kicking ass. A few new band members, but still pretty damned good. They played mostly older songs, maybe one or two that have been on albums put out since 1997. I can tell Angelo Moore is getting older. He's still bouncing off the walls and freaking out the yuppies with his theramin, but he's not dry humping hot chicks on stage and giving 20 minute scatalogical spoken word dissertations from on top of the speaker stacks any more.

The English Beat was basically Dave Wakeling and a bunch of hired guys. They sounded really good, but it might as well have been called Dave Wakeling from The English Beat. It wasn't really the same without Ranking Rodger, but hey whatever. They sounded great and played all their good stuff plus some new material.

YouTube - The English Beat- Twist and Crawl

The funny thing about this show was that it was populated by loads and loads (at least half the crowd) of late 30s-early 40s yuppies. Weird at that venue which is known for punk rock and metal shows. They weren't sure what to do when Fishbone started stagediving. Fishbone's keyboard player climbed up in the rafters and jumped down on the crowd. I saw at least 20 yuppies literally run in fright. I saw two different people tweeting stuff like "OMG, this show is AWESOME. I feel like I'm in my teens again." lol.

"twist and crawl" and "mirror in the bathroom" are classic
