    Default Stay Up Forever RIP

Ok, I`m allready prepared for the heckles and the slaggin`s, but I gotta say this, as I`ve been pontificating over this for a while.

Is it about time that stay up forever retired?

I have followed the label, since day 1 and own all of the 1st 30 releases, I was a punter on the London Techno Acid scene way back when the labels were fledglings, and I believe Stay Up Forever is one of the main labels responsible for starting a new movement within dance music. the label brought a punk, care free attitude to dance music and also humour too. But over the last few years as the London Acid Techno Crew grew tired of their old sound they began to focus individualy on their own new directions, and slowly, the styles changed.
But SUF seemed to try to hold on to the old sound, and now seems a pale imitation of itself, the breakdown vocals are getting a little tired now, and the 303`s has lost their initial energy and originality.
I feel like the label is being continued just for the sake of it, and no real effort or passion is behind the releases anymore.

this label, among some others from the Original London Techno Mafia, is responsible for my involvement in the scene. Without these records, I would never have discovered the Parties, become a punter, and eventually involved in running a rig. I would never have ended up (accidentally) putting on Big nasty warehouse parties in London Myself, and from this, ended up turning my studio production output, over to techno and finally running my own label.

I owe acid techno a lot.

And thats why I don`t like to see this once fantastic label, slowly dying away into mediocrity. I say kill it now, while it still has it`s dignity.

Maybe a new label instead, Stay Alive Forever?

I think releases on all Truelove labels are all hit-and-miss, especially some of the early releases - not just SUF but Routemaster, Cluster etc. To pick of SUF just because I have more mature tastes and a lot of memories not really a reason for sutting down a label.

If you don't like it don't buy it. Labels like 4x4, RAW, Powertools and WahWah give vent for different approaches but you need a flagship like SUF, IMHO.

    Peace.

I don`t buy it, it`s just it seems a little sad seeing the label at the standard it is at now.

We need another epiphany like Cluster 2, init

Have to say I put back the latest remix - not Ant and Rach + Chris on Build Up the Pressure, the new one ? cos I thought it was dull plod. But I'm a great fan of SUF70

boys are just getting older, init :)

kinda like if elvis died when he was all good looking and respectable rather then old ugly and fat on the toilet, he'd be remembered as that...instead of a fat old man that crazy people in vegas impersonate?

    i see your point.

maybe they were just in a rough spot. I havnt bought a stayupforever since....#50something (remixes excluded, alot of the remixes are still top notch) until #69 came out, and #70 i also bought, because they are both really awesome.

i am curious to see where it goes into the 70's...i love to support these guys, and if they keep up with the last 2, then maybe it'll be like elvis getting a face lift and liposuction and coming out of rehab instead of dying on the toilet.

    ok crappy analogy i know.

just saying im gonna give them a chance, i really believe that the days of good london acid trance is not over....

Haven't been into the acid sound for a long time and don't even listen to SUF releases in the shop anymore...

Still have a look at what's new on 4x4, Hydraulix, Max Min and Cluster though...

some of the releases as of late haven't been to my liking lately but i think 69 and by all accounts 70 show this label could be on the up again, i hope so as i love this label with a passion, 65 was bloody good aswell imo. as for 303's not doing it for you anymore, they still do it for me and lots of other people, they bring a nice melody to techno

I can't really make up my mind whether it's just that I've got fed up with formula they all follow, or if they genuinely are worse than they used to be. I've got nearly all of the first 50, but then they just didn't really do anything for me. They went through an excellent period in 98/99 (releases like B.4.U. Come Down, Build Up The Pressure, Slacker, Viagra Falls, Unlucky Punk etc) and the sound seemed to be getting a lot harsher. But then it went back to the old school style and I'm not really feeling it tbh.

I agree in a way about SUF, it's defo a bit formulaic now. That's why I don't really buy their releases anymore. But the thing is when played on a fat soundsystem it all still sounds wicked to me. So whilst I don't have a passion enuf to spend 6 squid on a SUF release, I still think it's a wicked larf and should carry on.

They could definitely do with trying something a bit different tho.

and the humour's all well and good, but can get a little tiresome when repeated the whole time.
