all the anti-laptop sentiment is hilarious, imo. what the hell is an mpc or a sequencer or the like? -- a music computer. laptops are just the same thing with different software and a better display. they are no more or less entertaining to watch than a typical live pa, save those of rudiman or ppl who are totally flying by the seat of their pants.

if you get really skilled using ableton it can be just as improvisational, just as spur of the moment. and whether or not the person looks interesting while doing it means f*ck all. you can't see them most of the freaking time anyway. does it sound good? then it is.
