sharkey & hixxy on RADIO 1

BBC Radio 1 are going to be playing a special one off (a test if you will) hardcore show called "Hixxy & Sharkey on Radio 1".

The two hour show will be live to air on Thursday March 17th 2004 at 12 midnight - 2am, with a 7 day achieve up on the web site for all the international peeps that miss it live. Special guests for this momentous show include Brisk, Ham, Sy, Dougal, Breeze & Styles and Jon Doe with MC'ing talents of Storm & Whizkid.

DJ Hixxy will also be doing an addition live DJ set the day before on Wednesday March 16th 2004 on the John Peel show.

Hardcore is back on radio1. This is a brilliant achievement from those who fought so hard to get it back, and biggest mention of all must go to Jon Doe. Well done mate, you have done us all proud.

Now we have been given this show, it is time to make sure it is seen to be a success, and it is NOT just a one off. Remember, if the ratings are high, the chances of more shows increase.

It is important to remember how ratings work. Just listening on your transistor radio is NOT ENOUGH. It is 99.9% likely that there will be no way of telling you are locked into the show, so what Radio1 does to work out ratings is uses a statistical projection system. They have an equasion of what % of people who are listening will email in/text in/listen online. Then they come up with a figure that is the "rating" for the show. The more popular the show, the more likely it is to happen again.

Now the question is, how can we swing these ratings in our favour? Very easily, by some simple steps that everyone listening to the shows should make the effort to do on both the John Peel show, Tonight, Wednesday 17th March 10pm-midnight, and on John Peel Is Not Enough, Thursday midnight til friday 2am (24 hours after the John Peel show ends)

Text in: There is a text number that will be given out regularly on both shows. Text it text it text it!

Email in: email in to both the John Peel show and to the One World show. Say how much you are enjoying the hardcore and how much radio 1 should carry on doing this. Sound enthusiastic!

Listen Online: This is probably the most important one. If you have net access in any way, even if you prefer having the music itself from the radio, have you computer linked into listening in online. They take a LOT of notice of this, as it is easy for them to monitor who is listening. All you do is go to www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 and click on "listen live".
