I would like to point you in what I consider the right direction but I would love to say
Go to the nearest store grab anything the store owner considers techno and sort out which records you yourself like.
This way you dont have our taste but your own ;)
    Wetworks
    Compound, Punish Blue, Mastertraxx

just go to those links and buy what you like.

why simply buy because someone else says it's good?

    listen for yourself!!!

FFS, the guy WILL listen to those things first, he just wanted to be pointed in the right direction. Maybe you've forgotton your first trips to record stores that specialise in a style of music you're not familiar with. That feeling of not knowing where to start can be off putting. Everyone will develop their own tastes, but it is useful to have a starting point.

Well said... my initial techno buys included some right turkeys because I didn't really know what labels and styles to look for that represented the music I liked.

I'd also recommend these for very hard techno:

    Bitshift
    Artillery
    Crobar
    Vote techno party!

My starting point developed when I took the initiative by myself to find my sound. Every has an opinion, for all we know what we call hard techno could be hardcore to him especially if he is coming in from another genre.

Even so, it'll give him something to look for in the shop - the start of something.
