    Default passive/active monitors

    Pro's and cons for each?

Passive are cheaper, but how much sound quality do you lose if any.

    What amp for which speakers???

    always active...

cons .. weight, price, when the amp breaks... u can't use the speaker...

Advantages... more eficient amping (2 amps 4 each cabinet) means closer 2 linear amping. The crossovers and the all system is designed 2 compensate 4 flaws in the amp/ speakers 2 make the perfect match that will never b achieved with any other amp 4 the same speaker.

    my 2 cents,

Agreed 100%. Mackie HR824's here - passive speakers are designed to function reasonably well with a wide range of amplifiers; actives are designed to function as a single perfectly matched machine. With that in mind, you can't really 100% trust specifications from a passive speaker, as the amplifier will always flavor the sound slightly.
