    Default whole world of shit?

k, been trying to wipe eros.exe (a porn dialer i seem to have contracted from a warez site) - got a whole bunch of reg checkers/virus scanners etc that all say theres nothing bad on the computer but it just comes back everytime i start up.
the net says there are some keys that need deleting aswell as the .exe but they arent there if i go into regedit. (ironically i got this whilst looking for a serial for registry mechanic)

then i got bulletproof spyware remover and ran the various bits of that. heres where i did wrong i reckon, i just selected and corrected everything it threw at me... now eros is still on here but basically all the startup stuff is gone. No icons in the tray anymore and it froze up first time, thankfully seems to be running ok right now.

have i ****ed this? will i start something up and just have it all explode in my face?

I know you don't want to hear this, but I'd say it's time to reinstall Windows. :(

Seriously. Every six months. If you really want a super-stable studio computer, don't install anything at all on it that isn't specifically a tool you need to make music. Don't even surf the web or check email on it.

One option - if you've got lots of drive space, consider a dual-boot system - one boot into "studio mode", one boot into "life mode", where you do your gaming and web and email stuffs. I dual boot my studio computer between Windows XP (studio) and Linux (day job). A 200G drive is what, $150 these days? Definitely a worthwhile investment.

its not a studio computer so its ok - i got the ****er in the end. found the bad keys by process of elimination and then deleted them and the system files while in safe mode. virus gone.

for this one you had to delete the keys and .exes that were called 'regcpm32' and 'scvhost' or something like that. both in windows/system and hidden with teddy bear icons (not to do with the teddy bear hoax though). one cant be deleted unless in safe mode though cos its runs otherwise and that stops you from getting to it.
