One of techno's early innovators makes a long overdue return to Tokyo to headline a night of hard-edged beats at Luners. Over in the jam band scene, meanwhile, "instrumental space jazz" unit Sound Tribe Sector 9 heads up the latest installment in the Organic Groove series.

After breaking onto the dance scene at the Troll club in the late '80s, Daz Saund went on to take up a residency at the Garage at Heaven event, followed by a two-year stint at the legendary Trade, where he cemented his reputation as one of Britain's foremost techno artists.

Daz's growing reputation lead to tours throughout the UK, Europe and finally Japan in the mid-'90s, capped by sets at the colossal Love Parade events in Berlin. He was recognized by Frontpage magazine as best international DJ in 1995.

In 1998, Daz returned to one of his favorite venues, Turnmills, where he hosted the Sunday Melt events; he has recently been found behind the decks at The Gallery and Atomic Jam.
Daz has also released a range of tracks, including a number of collaborations with Ben Tisdall as Sound Associates, such as the Groovessence EP on Music Man.

At Luners for what is another in the Dimension K series, Daz will be backed by a trio of Japan's foremost hard to minimal techno spinners, including DJs Heigo Tani of the Co-Fusion duo, Mayuri of events like de-tox and Metamorphose, and Kagami of Frogman records…

Crossing the musical atlas into Japan's recently thriving jam band scene, Phatleaf promotion has established its Organic Groove parties as the definitive happening of its kind in the country, with a freewheeling style and emphasis on live bands, but also appealing to clubbers as well.

The upcoming Organic Groove marks Phatleaf's most ambitious undertaking yet, with an evening event at the cozy Cay in Aoyama, and an all-nighter slated for the much larger Differ Ariake.

The parties series, which has previously introduced acts like Medeski, Martin & Wood to Japan, will this time see Sound Tribe Sector 9 as the latest import from the American jam band circuit. Originally based in Atlanta but recently relocated to the West Coast, STS9 have built a solid reputation playing over 300 gigs a year. Mixing trance, jazz, and beats, STS9 are known for generating maximum audience participation, and should connect with fans of Japan's growing live psychedelic electronica band scene.
