    Default Hooking up a compressor

Right I'm confused about how to do this right...

I'm hooking up my DBX 266 to my Mackie 1402.

I've never got how to do this right. I've got a Y cable to hook it up. However, only the first 6 channels have insert sends. This means that I have to send a separate signal out for both left and right channels (because they are coming through channel 1 and 2).

How can I send this out as 1 signal so that I can control both channels with just one channel on the compressor?

Most compressors have a link button so that you only use the left channel.

Okie .. either I'm not getting yer question right or the link button ain't exactly what u r looking 4!?

The link is mainly when u want 2 compress a stereo signal so u want the setting from input 1 (i.e. Left) on the comp. 2 be the same as the setting in input 2 (i.e. right )...

if u want 2 compress 2 different sounds on 2 totally different ways u need one Y cable from the insert on one of the channels 2 one of the input/ output on the comp, and another Y cable 4 the other channel and the other Input/ output of the comp!
