Mixer Problem & Software help!

There is a problem which has developed on my mixer where if I turn everything down on the gains there is still sound leaking through. It means that I either have to turn the master right down and put gains on high (means I have no readings on the mixers monitor) and this makes it hard to have levels the same for recording... it sounds fine for just mixing but when recording now it means the loudness is slightly higher/lower at times than I want it. So does anyone know a feature on cooledit pro which will equalise the entire sets waveform so lower volumes are upped and higher ones are slightly reduced?

not sure if this is the same thing but i had a prob with my mixer when i got my 1210's. since i got them the mixer sound levels aint quite right when compared to what they used to be for my old dex. At the moment my master is at about 10 and the gains r around 3. which is ok but the sound levels on the mixer aint quite on the 0db mark. i do however, need better speakers. at least then i can bang the gains up without the crap speakers i got now blowing up lol.

Hakka i think in sound forge u can use a compression plug-in, i dont know if that will work or not and theres EQ settings aswell but ive never played around with that stuff much.

"normalise" - in soundforge...

"The Normalize dialog allows you to raise the volume of a selection so that the highest level sample reaches a user-defined level. Use normalization to ensure you are using all of the dynamic range available to you without clipping. To display this dialog, choose Normalize from the Process menu."

i used to use it on normal vinyl recordings, no mixing, so it might do some weired things with a recorded mix (from memory... havent used it for a while, got me levels sorted!)
