Default Is David Walliams favourite to be sports personality of the

yeah that would be taking the piss - trying to turn sport in to a celebrity big brother type thing.

Exactly, it's not like he came close to the record, it's a good personal achievement for him, but it's no great sporting achievement, far from it.

does it matter if hes a sportman or not. it was a really remarkable thing he did. not many people have done that and raised 750k for charity in the process

It'd be like a temp working at your company for one day and winning employee of the year when there were people there doing the same job all year only better! I think the clue is in 'sportsman' of the year, it should be about sporting achievements, not charity work or personal achievements. If a professional swimmer finished that far off the record they'd certainly not be up for sportsman of the year!

I suppose Robbie Williams should be up for Soccer aid even though he didn't play very well!

Its not really an award i would give to him, although what he did took some balls only so many people have swam that and for charity to,he deserves somethin for that achievment but sports personalty is a bit off the mark

F**king right he should be Sports personality of the year. The England Cricket team got the Team award the other year, didn't they and all they sucseeded in doing was beating Australia in one lousy f**king match.

Didn't David Williams cross the channel in one of the 10 fastest times of all time. He should get it.

Wasn't he 4-8 hours off the best? Which represented 33-50% slower than the best, something like that? May as well give it To Jenson Button now he's won a race, at least he was the best once!

yea but the point of it is though every other person thats swam the channel was a highly trained athlete and had been training for years to do it.

    he isnt.

imo hes not a sports personality, hes a "celebrity". i respect him for what he does and for crossing the channel, but its like giving the victoria cross to a celebrity who has done a sponsored parachute jump.

at the end of the day hes not a sports personality. if he had influenced loads of people to take up swimming then fair play, but he hasnt (to my knowledge) done anything for the sport.
