Maybe I can help (as I run a shop and a tech forum in Lisbon, Portugal)... www.danceplanet.com..
2 help ya out I need 2 know what u have, what u intend 2 produce, yer favorite method.. is it 4 live usage or studio.. and off course budget...
One good tip is u get a brill powerfull PC/ Mac... and follow some of the hardware/ Config tips in this forum!
Personally I go 4 small synths with loads of character ...
My favourites at the moment are A Station / Key Station / DrumStation (yes Novation Kicks u know what)... But also Waldorf Pulse Plus ( just blood* amazing I tell ya) and Red Darkstar... this sort of thing is generally discarted by the big boys .. but let me tell ya.. u get round' em and it just takes of!! ...
Software ... DON'T go installing every software u find, choose well ... waves, native instruments, TC, steinberg, e-magic are household names 4 quality!
I go 4 Cubase SX, Wavelab, Fruity, Recycle 2 and Reason!
Don't need anything more!!
Yer soundcard will eventually become the heart of yer system go don't go cheap there!!
If u play 2 go the all hardware way... Mackie desk (I prefer the Spirit eq. but mackie is a standard), Akai MPC 4000 (expensive as hell .. but i get D sequencer with a mother of a Sampler/ synth)... Novation Nova/ Waldorf Micro Q/ Virus C rack... all these r good and depend on pref... try 2 get a synth with Kb .. that way u can b sorted 4 keys and synth!!
Look around the 2nd hand markett... U can easily get more 4 less!!... Some over here suggested ebay!!

But I feel a Djax mood slowly creepin' in so I might wack some more harder tweeky stuff soon (I hope!! eheh :P )... did ya like any of my cra* 12" ?
Well I guess my 1st answer was preaty down 2 tha point but if there's any questions feel free 2 let us know!!
Regards,
Z
PS- Machines make what ever style u want the 2 (with very few exceptions).. so don't worrie 'bout that!

im aimin to make hard and pumping techno, im using Fruity and Soundforge at the moment and getting some good results
ive heard some of ur stuff mate, on Djax there is a shop by my house that sells loads of old Djax stuff
upcoming releases : Templ8r 1, Advanced 025, Humanoid 7, Emetic 013 - www.djscottgray.co.uk
yeah i like all ur stuff taht ive heard so far.
im considering buying my first 8 channel mixer and a drum machine this week. but a bit confused as to how id set it up
im aiming to record my drum samples into a soft sampler or Soundforge and then to load my samples into fruity or reason because im a bit unsure about recording straight into something like cubase

Save the money from the drumbox and get either a very good soundcard with loads of I/Os or a slightly bigger desk (believe me.. U can never have enought inputs)...
I'd personally go 4 something like Mackie, Spirit, Allen & heath (order of personal pref..)
Why save on the drumbox? U can find massive amounts of drum samples on the web!! I love drum machines.. but a smart use of a low budget can perform more miracles that a drum machine might on itself!! lol
Softw. tip... Drum Sampler (Native Instruments Battery), Drum Synth (Native Instruments Attack)..
Hardw. :
Novation DrumStation, Jomox Airbass (no knobs though)!!
PS- I glad some1 other than my friends/ family like my stuff eheh :P

Hey,
U can check somewhere around here some tips7 opinions on soundcards..
Delta 1010 is great (almost all delta range by M-Audio is good).. I prefer 2 spend a little more on a RME or Motu! Creamware is also very good!!

I have a Echo Gina for my PC and it's NEVER let me down. The latency is no problem at all.
But for my G4 I have a MOTU 828. Simply stunning sound quality. I love it. Shame there's no drivers for Win 98 SE though.
I was speaking with someone today who couldnt stop saying wonderful things about the Motu cards. PC's dont support Fireware half as well as Macs do, but the 896, while significantly more expensive, has PC support for it (I dont think I'd be too comfortable using it though)
