Define your budget.
For gods sake don`t go for real low end stuff like the edirol or m-audio stuff. Your just throwing money down the can.
I would say the best monitors you can get for good money, would appear to be yorkvilles.
yorkvilles, iv'e never heard of them, how much are they then
Well he could be doing as bad as me, using my creative inspire 5200 speakers that are mainly intended for 5.1 surround.Quote:

Well, you need to speak to X5ive on here. But yorkville do some very well made (and well reviewed) active nearfields.Quote:

YSMP1 are the active nearfields
Them Yorkvilles look pants, I dont think you can far wrong you some Spirit Absolute 2's second hand if your budget aint massive, quality speakers and really well designed sound wise. I know people that have sold there Mackies to buy another pair of these because they prefer them.
They are passive though but quality for the price.
You fool.
I have absolute 2`s they are good, but the look of a speaker has nowt to do with performance.
After first being informed about the yorkvilles, I made enquiries. and they are indeed very good monitors, with a similar performance to Abs 2`s anyway. Plus they are actives and have switchable filtering.
Bloody great.
And a pair will cost you 250 MAX
Recently had the pleasure of working with these Blue Sky monitors and have to say for the price they are incredible, bit above your range at £399 but well worth looking into if your in the market for some cheap monitors.
someone recommended me those blue sky the other day...been thinking about going for genelec 1029a's instead for more cash at £500. anyone know if they are worth the xtra £?
Don`t do those genelecs.
Unless you are in a nice big studio they are a very harsh and uncomfortable listen.
Really can`t recommend them at all, after half an hour in a small studio with them, you`ll be going mad trying to get the scarey scraping monsters out of your ears.
Hmm, I really wouldn`t bother with those blue sky. 4" drivers are gonna give a terrible bass response unless you get a separate woofer, and for accurate nearfield monitoring, a separate woofer is just really not a good idea.
the fostex PM2`s are pretty cheap as are the pm1`s. I`d go for them if you`ve got that bit extra, or the yorkvilles if you can`t stretch.
Trust me on this one Steve these things are incredible for the money i have used a lot of the more popular low to mid price near fields over the years and these Blue Sky things blow nearly all of them away, very accurate response and not overly harsh sounding (a problem i have with nearly everything else). Personally still prefer my K roks but if your in the market for some nearfields these are well worth an audition.Quote:

any help or advice would be great
i use Tannoy reveals.ad em for a few years now n theyre still workin fine(TOUCH WOOD!) very cheap too. just flat response nearfields.but theyre a good all rounder...bit too much bass emphasis tho imo..

Would these be suitable for Audio production work?
They sure make it sound like it.
I guess it's better than using these...

What are important specs to look for on studio monitors?
I cant afford much right now, but would like to know for the future.
i've heard em in action, and the shit reviews were right... dont bother man.Quote:

Read some reviews from real users, this always helps loads. Looking at statistics all day will fry your brain, and the sites that sell em to you never put the bad bits about em in their adverts...
Yeah very true.
That's usually what i do is check out reviews, i got some time now to see what i can find. They sound pretty decent. It kinda scares me to use headphones for production, but if they're studio monitors then it's meant for that need i'd suppose.
I'm just happy i have a pair of "Monitors" around that are for audio work.
Well, i shoulda known since the person who gave em to me is a DJ, used em out all the time.
Thx for the advice.

you mind providing me with a bad review, i have only read good ones as to now.
as much as people bad mouth behringer, i got the behringer b2031 truth monitors and for the price, they're perfect and i like how they sound
Yeah, I've got a friend who's got the behringer stuff and it seems ok, not amazing but ok.
I have a theory about monitors: Go to the bank, beg, borrow steal and buy something stupidly expensive. You'll have 'em 20 years and even if you can't be arsed to produce any music you'll still have an amazing pair of speakers to listen to.
I bought some Genelec 1032s about five or six years ago and even though I was skint for ages never regreted it.
Had the predecessor to the Tannoy Reveals before that (PBM 6.5s or somethign like that) and had no idea what was going on in the low end.
i think one shouldn't forget about the room acoustics.
ah ye fecker... i thought i was gettin my research done for me for free in this thread, as im purchasin soon.....Quote:

You're right... When i read user reviews i look for those who are saying bad about the products, usually i don't care much about the "I've bought it and it rocks" users.Quote:
