It could still, very easilly, be a bad chip. A bad chip run by itself may not cause the same issues as a bad chip run in tandem with a good one. Go to this site and download memtest86.

Snag the ISO image one to make a bootable CD if you can. Run the tests on each chip in the machine one at a time, not in tandem. If one reports errors, there's your issue.
